Two years ago, when I was at my sister's in Florida, and with my niece, Ashley (see her in the new church videos about the new YM/YW theme, Arise and Shine Forth that Thy Light may be a Standard for the Nations (she is the beautiful girl with dark curly hair with the orange flower on the Strength of Youth 2012 video http://lds.org/media-library?lang=eng) we decided we would memorize The Living Christ. Of course it took her a couple of days, but for me it was an experience and took me a couple of MONTHS! However, it was an experience that will be with me forever.
In a talk from Sheri Dew in September of 1997 entitled, Your Life Can Never Be the Same Again http://lds.org/new-era/1998/07/your-life-can-never-be-the-same-again?lang=eng&query=sheri+dew, she tells a story of being raised on a farm in Kansas where she lived next store to her Grandma Dew. She went everywhere with her and described her as "zealous" about the gospel. After one of the many church meetings she attended with her grandmother she asked a question: "Grandma, what if the gospel isn't tru and we've been going to all of these meetings for nothing?" Her grandmother answered, "Sheri, you don't need to worry about that because I know that the gospel is true." Sheri then challenged her: "How can you know for sure? After several seconds her grandmother said slowly, "I know for sure that the gospel is true because the Holy Ghost has told me that Jesus Christ is our Savior and that this is His Church." Then she added, "And, Sheri, He'll tell you too, and when He does, your life can never be the same again.
This is how I feel about The Living Christ. After studying and memorizing it, it has become personal. It means more than just sunday school answers blurted out and being able to tell all the scripture stories. It is internal now and I repeat it with feeling and love for Jesus. It strengthened my relationship with him. It was an experience that did change me and I won't be the same again.
I just finished making some beautiful books I found on-line so that the YW in our ward can work on memorizing it. I hope that they will feel my testimony of it and find out for themselves how it can change their lives.
